Uhuru means freedom in Swahili and that is what art means to me: Freedom in expressing myself and my views on the world.

I was born and raised in Dar-es-salaam, the business metropolis of Tanzania. Since I was a child I spent my leisure time on drawing and painting. In a society in which surviving is a daily challenge, you think twice about putting your hope on making a living with art. Nevertheless, I went on and on with painting and discovered more and more materials, art styles and techniques. After graduating from high school I enrolled in Human Resources Management at the University and finished my studies in summer 2023. Since then, I am making a living with painting and selling commercial art. But whenever I got the chance I devote my time to personal art projects.

Over the past years a small art scene evolved in Dar-es-salaam with different art collectives and projects. Taking part in graffiti and mural painting events as well as collaborating with other artists inspires me for my own artwork. Together with my friends Martin Peter Mgimbe and Mkamah Abijan I founded the art group Tansanaa. We want to build a network of Tanzanian and international artists, support each other in our artistic practise and work on collaborative projects. We want to get Tanzanian art out into the world.

My art pieces were displayed on the following exhibitions:
